Case study: Amper - implementation of online store amper24.pl, from zero to over 500 orders in a month

Scope: pre-implementation analysis, project management, PIM implementation, PIM integration with Magento, Magento implementation, Sellin implementation, integration with ERP and OMS systems.

Amper is a wholesaler distributing electrical and lighting products supplied by leading manufacturers from all over Poland. It is also a member of the Inter Elektro Group. In 2023, Amper decided to take advantage of more than 20 years of experience in selling electrotechnology and build its first proprietary online channel based on Magento, and ultimately built on our proprietary Sellina solution.

Cooperation on the consulting-technology level, with a very high level of commitment from the investor's team, resulted in the launch of the online store amper24.pl, which immediately became a commercial success.

Why did Amper want to implement a B2C / B2B eCommerce store?

The decision to launch its own online sales channel was prompted by the need to digitize shopping for individual and business customers. The company had previously traded on Allegro, where it had built an initial outline of eCommerce processes, while this channel proved insufficient due to:

Willingness to reach out to the national market - so far Amper has only operated in the local market.

Need to digitize B2B sales for existing partners.

The investor wanted not only to increase its competitiveness, but also to improve sales processes and reach new groups of customers. Thanks to the implementation of the amper24.pl store, he gained the ability to offer electrotechnical products in a more accessible and modern way.

Phases of implementation of Sellin's online store on Magneto engine

The process of implementing the amper24.pl online store consisted of five key stages.

01 The first was a pre-implementation analysis, which allowed to thoroughly understand the company's needs and prepare a detailed action plan.

02. We then implemented Akeneo's PIM, which enabled the digitization of the product database and the management of product information in one place.

03 The next step was to launch an online store on the Sellina system (based on the Magento engine) and develop the functionality.

04. It was also necessary to implement integration with OMS and ERP systems to automate and speed up data transfer.

05 The final phase of the implementation involved the transfer of existing B2B customers to the new online system.

Objectives of the amper24.pl project

The goal of the project was to create a modern e-commerce channel that would fully meet the needs of both individual and business customers. Key assumptions included digitizing sales especially in the B2B model, streamlining commercial processes and product information management.

The first priority was a thorough analysis of the systems architecture and business processes, which allowed us to properly prepare for the implementation of the store. We then focused on implementing Sellin's functional Magento-based Headless eCommerce system, which provided digitization of sales in its own channel.

Functional expansion of Sellin's headless eCommerce system

An important intermediate goal of the project, was to expand the online store system with functionalities that responded to customer needs. We implemented, among other things:

  • Returns and complaints module, taking into account products that cannot be returned due to the specifications of the order, such as the purchase of a product by the meter,

  • Support for multipack sales, including price information per unit of packaging,

  • handling energy labels,

  • A dedicated menu that improves user navigation,

  • same day shipping module,

  • Expansion of the data layer (datalayer) in cooperation with the agency responsible for analytics.

Implementation of Akeneo's PIM system - central management of product information

The implementation of Akeneo's PIM system was another important goal to achieve and thus one of the key elements of the second phase of the project. With this tool, Amper was able to structure product data, which significantly facilitated its management and digitization. The implementation process included preparing and implementing the data model, training the team and integrating Akeneo with Magento. As a result, the company gained a tool that allows it to centrally manage even a very extensive product offering.

Magento integration with BaseLinker and Streamsoft Prestige

Integration of the eCommerce store with the OMS (BaseLinker) and ERP system (Streamsoft Prestiż) has enabled automation of order processes. The B2B dashboard facilitates order management, while the integration with Prestiż allows for the assignment of trade credits and the presentation of trade documents. This makes it possible to effectively serve B2B customers, offering advanced functionality such as credit limit payment processing.

The effects of implementing a store on Magento - average basket value higher by 107% compared to marketplace channels

Within the first four months of the launch of the online store, the proprietary channel began to generate about 20% of the value of all e-commerce transactions (with the volume share of orders at 10%) - its share of orders is steadily increasing.

What's more, the average basket value in the own channel was 107% higher compared to sales on the marketplace. This proves that investment in e-commerce brings tangible benefits.

Today, Amper's digital commerce is more than half a thousand orders per month fulfilled by a series of automated processes.

Implementation of a store on Magento (Sellina) engine - conclusions and recommendations

The creation of the amper24.pl online store on the Sellina system (based on the Magento engine) is an example of successful digital transformation in the electrical engineering industry. The success of the project, in addition to the choice of appropriate technology, was influenced by the following elements:

  • A committed contractor team, a dedicated implementation team, access to fast communication channels (Google Chat) and periodic meetings,

  • Preparation of the product data model in a structured form in just one month by 4 people,

  • Jointly planning items to prepare for the store's go-live,

  • Using the existing integration architecture, i.e., combining BaseLinker with Streamsoft Prestige, to download data from the ERP system to Magento, which reduced implementation costs.
