Meringer is one of Poland's leading suppliers of medical supplies, supporting medical facilities across the country. The company, which initially specialized in gynecological assortments, has dynamically expanded its product portfolio in recent years to meet the needs of a wide range of customers in various sectors of medicine.

With the growing offerings, there was a need to structure product data to effectively manage the assortment and support the development of the new version of the online store sklep.meringer.co.uk. In response to these challenges, the company decided to implement Akeneo's PIM system, which powered the main store, structured the existing data model and product management processes.

At the same time, in order to diversify its online sales channels, Meringer decided to implement (now only internally) a second B2B / B2C eCommerce store based on Sellina's system.

Challenges and goals of Akeneo's PIM implementation project

With the expansion of the product range, product data management has become increasingly challenging. Existing work methods needed to be streamlined and adapted to modern digital standards. The main goals of the project included:

01. implementation of Akeneo's PIM system to enable central management of product information.

02 Analyze and organize existing data to create a consistent product data model and implement it in the Akeneo system.

03. integration of PIM with Magento, which allowed the synchronization of data and its effective use in the new version of the eCommerce store.

05 Create a new product management process, covering every step from product idea to publication in the online store.

06 Full digitization of the product base, covering about 30,000 products.

Implementation stages of a PIM implementation project

01. analysis of the model and product data sources for PIM implementation

Work on the project began with a detailed analysis of product data and its sources in the existing offer management process. This helped create a new data model aimed at streamlining the information management of a very wide range of products.

02. implementation and configuration of PIM Akeneo product information management system

After completing the analysis phase, we proceeded to configure and implement the Akeneo PIM system. The system was tailored to Meringer's needs, taking into account the specifics of the medical industry and the complexity of product data.

03. data migration to PIM

The next step was to transfer the structured product data to the Akeneo system. This process involved digitizing the entire product database, eliminating the need to migrate data between the old and new versions of the online store.

04. PIM integration with Magento

The PIM system was integrated with the Magento platform, which enabled automatic data transfer to the new version of the online store. This integration made it possible to greatly simplify the management of online offerings and streamline the publication of new products.

05 Preparing the product management process

In parallel with the implementation of the PIM system, a new product management process was developed. This process covered all stages of product development - from the moment an idea was conceived, to the input of data into PIM, to its final publication in the e-commerce channel.

Full digitization of the product base

As a result of the work on the project, it was possible to fully digitize a product database of 30,000 items organized into 140 families and described with 220 attributes. This made it possible to consistently and efficiently manage the company's entire product range.

Saving time and resources

By implementing PIM and integrating it with Magento, it was possible to avoid having to migrate data between the old and new versions of the online store. This saved time and minimized the risk of errors in the data transfer process.

Identify the existing product management process and build a new one

As part of the project, the existing product management process was analyzed and identified, covering all stages from the inception of an idea for a new product to its final implementation in the online channel. Based on this analysis, a new, optimized process was produced, which is regularly streamlined to ensure the highest efficiency of operations.

Working with a consultant as a guarantee of success

One of the most important factors in the success of the project was working with an experienced consultant. He supported Meringer's team at every stage of the project. The consultant helped not only with data modeling, but also with identifying the existing product management process and creating a new one to improve it. Implementation of Sellina's B2B/B2C eCommerce system - diversification of sales channels

Regardless of the PIM system implementation, Meringer made a key strategic decision to diversify its sales channels. After a thorough analysis of available solutions on the market, the company decided on Sellina - an eCommerce / B2B system - which best suited its needs in terms of rapid implementation, cost control and the ability to scale its business in the future.

The decision to implement Sellina was motivated by a desire to become independent of individual sales channels and to optimize customer service processes for both B2B and B2C customers. With this solution, Meringer gained a flexible platform that supports the company's growth and enables it to further expand its offerings in a controlled and cost-effective manner.

The implementation of Akeneo's PIM system at Meringer is an example of successful transformation of product management processes. Thanks to a consistent data model, integration with Magento and a well-thought-out digitization process, the company was able to significantly improve operational efficiency.
